On The Road Again: Memphis, TN
Though I’ve lived in Nashville longer than I’ve lived anywhere else, I’ve never been to Memphis before. And though we played there, I suppose I still haven’t really been. That’s the strange thing about touring; sometimes you’ll be in a cool city, but have no time at all to see any of the sights, so it could just be anywhere. I’ll have to come back and see Graceland sometime; not for the Elvis value, but because U2 visited it in Rattle & Hum. Yes, I just wrote that.
The band for this weekend was Tripp Ethridge on drums, Cason Cooley on bass (he normally plays guitar for me, so this was quite a change) and Ben Gortmaker on guitar and mandolin. I added “Let Us Love And Sing And Wonder” to the set (which I normally play at solo shows but not band ones) to take advantage of having mandolin.
I got to meet my friend Rebecca’s sister, who lives in Memphis, and overall had a good start to the tour. Thanks to Chris for making this happen.
